my tagging in one of my students' blog seemed to have caused a stir/storm in a teacup?!? I shld take this entry to apologise to the colleagues who might be implicated in my tag. if you are reading this, I am really sorry. I just wanna add some words of encouragement to the team, probably good intentions but well, ... i think i shall just stop tagging students' blogs then.
I was reflecting on blogging and this incident while driving back home today (dun worry, I can multi-task and I am very focused when driving LOL), i kept asking these questions: what is blogging? why do people blog? why do I blog? what's the tagboard or chatbox for? Can teachers blog? Am i wrong in tagging, for this instance?
well, maybe i shared a little bit of why i started blogging. I started blogging when I joined this Dunmanian family in 2005. The reason was simple at that time, it was an in-thing, students are doing that, so i wanna get the feel of what it is like to do blogging. As I blog more and more, it becomes evident that it is a good outlet for me. I must confess that i am a man of few words, only chatty when i am with close frenz and I tend to be more of a listener. So this form of expression becomes a form for me to concretise my thoughts and allows me to pen down what I have gone thru, my emotions and ideas on things, people and issues around me. And also, it allows me to edit and reflect on my entries, even after a long time. But blogging has its other issues, it is in the public domain, i.e. people around the world can read what i put up. But I see this in a positive light, it trained me to be more sensitive in and pay more attention to my choice of words, more discerning in what i put up. But i dun really advocate political correctness, more of being tactful becos I know people read my entries. I know you peeps, i.e. students, read my blog, and perhaps even some of my colleagues, but it's fine with me bcos i 问心无愧,对得起天地良心. Altho sometimes I ask questions that may rattle a few nerves
so next, why can't i tag? what's the tagboard or chatbox for? It's for peeps who access your blog to leave a footprint, a comment, a response. Is it bcos of my status as a teacher that will make my tagging unacceptable... sigh... I think I am 钻ing 牛角尖。Maybe, that's why there has been a lot of debate on teachers blogging, shld teachers blog, and even the absurd suggestion at one time to get teachers to register their blogs with MOE. I feel, as long as we exercise respect and responsibility in what we put up, it shldnt be a problem. can't penalise bloggers like us becos of some "black sheep" or "mistakes" made by a few individuals. but then, it still begs the question that shld teachers tag on students' blogs... this perspective of power and authority, kindaf put me off.
Anyway, like one of the greatest Chinese Writers I admired 巴金 said,
说真话
I will hold true to this three words.
