after emo-ing and buzzing around for the past couple weeks, it's finally rest time... just spent the whole day lazing around with guagua, mich is in KL again for work. oso, playing with my facebook, downloading music videos... then went to this Marche style Japanese restnt at raffles city basement with sis, roy and parents, mum treated us, thanks mum. kool place!
and guess what... it's June Hols... woohooo! and I can't wait for next week's Hokkaido trip with mich and guagua... scenery, sushi, sashimi, shabu shabu, beef, tuna belly, courteous and environmentally-friendly japanese, nice drives along the coastal routes, retail therapy at factory outlets... woohooo...! i think i am drooling and making those who r reading this jealous. lol
anyway, open house was ok, the turnout seemed to be betta than last year, think more than 1200 turned up. i must say this year's first time done by students, well, with a lot of trs to help cover the grounds... hope subsequent years, the students can come up to meet the challenge and rise to the occasion
there are areas that needs to be improve of course, but i must commend the ushers (esp the year 1s) they will so enthu, like bees buzzing around. the personal guides were good. impressed with yan lin's dedication to the new sch model, going over and over again with different groups of parents on the details of the new sch campsite. got a no of parents who praised her and some other guides. I was particularly impressed with Siswo's speech, very impromptu, captures the heart, passionate and sincere and strikes the chords of the parents. not to say the other 3 are not, but siswo's speech is sounded non-scripted and he chose words that resonates with parents, i guess bcos he and his parents have been staying apart since he came to spore for his education. cruedos to him and the other 3. 8-)
but overall, i felt that our students are still not forthcoming and i can't sense the passion exuding out from them, esp at the exhibition areas. is it bcos of personality, their character? or is it bcos of the sch culture? i dun feel engaged when i listen to some of them presenting. i feel what really can differentiate us from other IP schs' open houses, is the outlook of our students, how they carry themselves, confident? pro-active? forth-coming? or innert? mingle amongst themselves? waiting for things to happen? only follow instructions?
this is really something that we need to work towards. i think i hv mentioned that many a times, e.g. in my vjc dance club entry, when i see passion and discipline...
dunmanians hv the potential and can achieve greater than what we see now... the crunch is, do we want to? get out of the cocoon, and comfort zone? having fun is one thing, but too self-indulgent in fun will not be positive towards shaping a unique dunmanian sch culture... i guess it needs time. but with so much at stake, i am just concerned abt their future if they are prepared.
anyway, it's jun hols, i hope everyone has a restful hols, and make full use of the hols in a meaningful way.
