Are you gracious?

Today did 30 km bike and 6 km run.

After biking, was listening to Glenn & TFD on class95 while driving to sch, Glenn was relating this flabberghasting incident when he was trying to get out of a lift and this guy just tried to burged in. The guy gave the "zhe" sound when he was given no choice but to step aside and how Glenn was so peeved that he went back to give that guy a piece of his mind. So the whole talk was on Are Singaporeans gracious? and smses were sent ...

I have many unpleasant encounters at MRTs, getting out of lifts and even now when i drive, similar to Glenn's and it begs me to question, after all these yrs of courtesy campaigns, smile campaigns, talks abt gracious society, how far have we reached? I see pple on MRTs sitted on the priority seats when there are pregnant women, elderly standing there, and there they were, pretending to be sleeping. My elderly parents were literally shoved off their feet by young healthy adults when there are available seats, young 20plus working adults fighting for seats with 65 year olds, OMG. then while driving, u will see young punks zooming in and out of your lanes dangerously and when i sounded that little horn, a middle finger was shown. gosh!

so is it becos of our pace of life? or the failure of our education? or it's the social context? or just the bad side of human's nature showing it's true ugliness?

But I do still hv pleasant encounters with fellow Singaporeans, to be fair. just that those not gracious ones tend to be young peeps or those driving big expensive cars (no offence to those gracious people driving big cars..haha).

So, what can we do? at least for me, I will continue to say thank you to those who show graciousness and for those who dont, i will just be super-peeved and i will tell them rite into the face "shame on you". >:-<

“If a man be gracious and courteous to strangers, it shows he is a citizen of the world, and that his heart is no island cut off from other lands, but a continent that joins to them.” Francis Bacon, Sr.
