I was reading yesterday's New Paper article abt a Pri sch tr who posted her bikini photos to participate in some online contest and abt her blog on not being able to be herself and responses from parents and public abt teachers being role models blablabla.
Aside from the fact that the Media tends to sensationalise such issues to pep up their readership, this thing did occur.
I were try not to fuel the fire but just talk abt two things. first is this issue of privacy. It seems peeps using online blogs, facebook and stuff always claim that this is their private stuff, private business... I really can't comprehend this false sense of privacy that some of these claims have. I mean this is internet, internet means transcending borders, it is invented to allow communication and access of informaton across borders. So, once we decided to put anything online, it will be up for public access and scrutiny. This equation of because the things i put online in my personal blog is personal = this is private simply does not hold. Whether u put an encryption, a secret password doesn't really matter. people can hack inside. So, unless one decides to share their secrets with others online, if not, it's betta to keep it in your hearts.
Some secrets are best kept offline. LOL
The other thing is abt profession of teacher being role models. Personally, I feel that once you choose a profession like teaching, doctor, nurse, physiotherapist, businessman etc, they will come with certain codes and expectations. whether it is the way we carry ourselves and/or with our students, patients, clients there would be some kind of demarcation. once we go beyond that line, be ready to be scrutinised. Sure, we can always do what we like, but being social beings (we don't live in isolation), people will look at us. Thus, it is not "big brother" watching, it is everyone watching one another (I mean now, peeps can just take a shot or video of someone else using handphone and send to STOMP or youtube, this is the extent of how our societies have "advanced")
Stop deluding ourselves and be so egocentric. 严以律己。(just like what the quote by John Maxwell in my previous entry said), and to me, using "privacy" as a reason is just lame excuse.
call me self-righteous if you like, but my message is
"Get Rea!"
