Ok, i shall post some random thoughts here.
after staying largely dormant except for the occasional runs this week. headed out for a quick spin and short run this morning. 30 km hard spin at cadence 80km/h, average speed 37 km/h. followed by 2 km short run.
have to pick up the pieces after this irritating back strain, suspect due to overtraining and lack of stretching. another sign of ageing i suppose.
Eyeing Nokia E72 after much research. not really a iphone fan, minimal user of apps and i am a keypad geek. i need keypad. haha.
Don't know wat is this current big craze on fb on love messages to each other via the status updates. but well, good to spread the love. I have also lost the craze over this 4-yr-once World Cup. don't know why. but i am more inclined to watch triathlon and marathon broadcasts. haha. a sign of ageing? 8-P
Today's ST got this interesting article on page A2 titled:" A city that never fails? Better a safe-to-fail city" which talks about us should be working towards a society that knows how to bounce back from failure than having this fallacy that we are a fail-proof and safe haven society. This is in the light of the recent incidents esp the graffiti on mrt train.
there is also this recent announcement of campaign for a cleaner city and toughening stance on litterbugs. while, all these might meet short term results, ultimately, it is the psyche and culture of the nation. I think we are so driven by quick successes and results that things are taken for granted and many find ways of convenience than ways that are based on sound values. So, what and where is the moral compass? There are some (which I read on the forum) who pointed the fingers to the schools, teachers shld teach the young. Yes, we can and we will as educators, but parents play a critical role. if parents don't role model, like clearing up after meals at macdonald's or food courts, the kids will pick that up and model the behaviour.
Anyway, a couple of days back when I went for one of my recovery runs, saw this cyclist (cyclist because he was wearing this pro looking cyclist outfit) having this mac meal, probably after his ride. after that, he went to his car (at carpark F2), which is like 5 m away, took out the servettes (and in the process dropped some on the floor and he happily stepped on it), wiped and you know what he did? he dumped the whole paper bag of mac stuff into the drain next to his car. And guess what? the bin is about 3-5 m away from his d*** big car! I stared at him until he quickly went in and drove off. so, where is the culture? Today, during my run, i saw whole lot of people on CWO picking up rubbish at the ECP. I must say, if not for the hard work of the cleaners, our beaches and parks really look like mess after tsunami.
So, change starts from within yourself. if you love the place, the school, the country and treat it well, then, keep it clean.
shall stop here. time for lunch.
tomorrow shall do a longer ride and run. pick up the pieces.
