me again
had a fruitful staff seminar for the past 3 days. I must say that I am very very inspired by Chern Wei's sharing on leadership, on education every time he does such sharing. it really makes me revisit some of my philosophies on education and on life, reflecting on how i communicate and do things. He is really and truly an inspirational leader, impeccable if you ask me though some people disagree, but who cares. he is really the kind of leader that I aspire to be, but most likely i won't achieve in this life time, or the next and the next... if I only i can master one-tenth of him.. haha....that was on 27 dec, the seminar for all KPs at orchid country club, rain rain rain
28 dec seminar for all staff at orchid country club, rain rain rain... again inspirational talk by Chern Wei and Joo Hong. though to some, these 2 days might be very heavy with a lot of info and sharing but I finds a lot of meaning and it really puts things that we have done and will be doing in context and perspective. We also did an activity using blu-orange platform (on-line video lessons that our sch embark on). Siu Li did a wonderful video lesson on art history abt abstract expressionism. I must say, her strength is really content and pedagogy, just hope that people see this (JH, Boon Eng and myslef sees that in her) and tap on this. followed by an hand-on activity in which we are tasked to do a small canvas painting. this is my work (see above)
I like my initial brushstrokes but as i dwell more and more into the work, it get worse... so in the midst of saving it, i started using the handle of the brush and create rhythmic patterns and taalaa..
hey. i still have some flair aye? (mind you i am an art teacher..8-P) and I like the textural feel and the mixing of colours...
but there is a lot of potential in blue-orange... hopefully, the teachers can tap on it to cover content knowledge and use the classroom pedagogy to invigorate learning of our kids... instead of covering heavy content during classes and bore our kids down. i.e. prior to activity, get them to go on line and acquire the content, say the night before... things like how to write, grammar, maths formula, science concept, historical facts....alot potentail
29 dec seminar was contact time in Mt Sinai... SUNNY!!! and i ran to school..yeeeh
mt sinai was buzzing with students and activities... anyhow, a lot of info download, setting the tone and expectations and I spoke abt PCCG and discipline. mmm.. i did a lousy job but thanks to Chern Wei, the message that I wanted to convey was sent clearly. I must learn to articulate. think of it, sometimes, it would be better for the P to send the messages... haha.. but the fact of the matter is, i really need to write down what i wanna say. then we had our mini treasure hunt... with the yr 5 students as our facilitators. to digress, I must really thank the yr 5s for burning their hols just to plan the orientation programme for the yr 2 to 4. .. even though my earlier intention when i suggested this to SMC was really to give them platform to be leaders as well as to gear them ready for planning orientation for the year 5s in 2008 when they become seniors in yr 6.. it is really no joke. many sacrificed their hols, burned their nights, just to get things ready. of course, there is also the year 5 teachers. that's is what i mean by servant leadership... to care, to serve and to lead!
ok, back to the mini treasure hunt around the campus. it was fun... though I think many teachers get more confused after running around the sch. well, let's keep our fingers crossed on the first day of school... murphy's law.
ciao
