Selfishness vs selflessness

Selflessness is more Satisfying than Selfishness
I think that when we are selfish, it is because we are ignoring our better judgement and going after what would please oneself with no thought of others; Whereas when one commits a selfless act it is because he/she is not at that moment concerned about their own satisfaction, they are forgetting themselves by putting someone else first. People should strive to be more selfless to increase everyones happiness. Selfish people are sneaky.

I have been in deep thoughts because of recent events. can we be selfless? or we are all selfish by nature? or a mixture of both? really dun know. i am an idealist. i believe that we can all do things with others in mind first, having that empathy, sensitivity and sensibility.

But in this climate when we continue to stress the need to pursue the best, to be always on our toes, the ethos becomes narrowed towards material success and comforts. Can we truly slow down and appreciate the life, people and finer things around us? We need to... but sometimes we are so entrenched in this rat race that we are consumed by it. i really want our students to stand firm and be guided by a strong passion, sound belief system and values.

Let's stop and smell the roses.

Ego
Selflessness feels better than selfishness because it's always better to hear someone else praise you than to praise yourself. You never hear of someone thanking themself, and if you did you'd probably think "What a selfish idiot". If someone else thanks you, or is enriched by your actions, then other people see you in a better light.
