Failures and successes

JOHN DEWEY:

Failure is instructive. The person who really thinks learns quite as much from his failures as from his successes.

Can't sleep now, dun know why. Mich is in HK for official trip, so guagua and me 相依为命。LOL anyway, looking forward to a getaway at ritz on Sat and Sun, since she is working there in the day for a conference before we can stay in the room at nite to watch NDP fireworks... so kool! guagua will be so happy. haha

happiness is something you can strive for.

Anway, sat in at P's address to SH yesterday (since now is wee hours of thurs). I enjoyed the Commencement Speech by J K Rowling at Harvard's Graduation. She talked about failure and Imagination, using her personal anecdotes. very inspirational. You can check out this website:

The day started off with a quick 15km spin on the bike at ECP (woke up too late to do a 25km), plus WK and I was planning to do a recovery bike in the afternoon. did another easy 18 km at ECP in the afternoon, but detoured to T3 at siglap to get his cyclometer fixed. in the end skipped the run.

oh oh, congrats to the trackers for the emphatic wins at the 4-schs combined finals for the 4 X 400m . all did well and B boys, dun be disheartened, u have done ur best. I totally forgot abt the race and went for the spin. somemore, it was held at our bouncy and red sch track.

Once a runner, always a runner.

another article that WK shared with me, the importance of proper training and the pace of training, I am enjoying the current pace, gradual building up my base and for WK, gradual coming out from semi-retirement. LOL. This discipline of training is great and once the momentum is built, I will want to maintain it. It is great to train with people with experience.

We had quite a few chats during our training. One thing that we talked abt is the impact of sports and the different attitudes that people who engaged in sports have towards their disciplines. Then I started to look at myself, and what drives me to sustain what I have started (I mean as a serious distance runner) 14 yrs ago until now; how I have pushed myself again and again beyond what I perceive would have been my limits (the recent 84 km ultramarathon is a testament 8-).

To be involved in sports, there needs to be not just techniques, but the right attitude, and more importantly, the passion. These latter two attributes will drive discipline and desire to excel in our own ways. Many of the student athletes, pushed themselves so hard at a very young age, were wonderfully successful but then burned out and stepped completely out of the very sports that brought them success. WK was sharing that some still get themselves involved at varsity level, but for the wrong reasons, like gaining points.

Maybe, I am an idealist and purist, I believe in the challenges and biggest enemy that we face is not the outside but from within. And i am a firm believer in Positive Attitude and Mindset is the very Key to success and when facing failures/setbacks.

So, to those sports peeps in sch, besides mugging, do remember to keep that passion in the sports that you have been doing for the past few years, don't waste this gift, this opportunity and this talent.

And, studies have shown active lifestyles in the form of exercise and sports help in your academic attainment (blood circulation, oxygen intake, hormonal balance, emotional destress etc... i.e. good for your brain) But must have proper food intake as well.

Don't grow sideways. 8-P

do i make sense?

time to orh orh
