had a intensive track workout today with WK. really dislike the humidity in Singapore.
2 x 1 km, followed by 2 x 2km and then 2 x 1 km. super duper hot and humid, but it was a total workout, last two 1 kms will at constant pace. ultimate endurance but it was darn shiok!
Have been thinking abt this self-discipline thing that was brought up in my chatbox and whether it can be taught. So let me share my take for your reading pleasure.
As far as i know, there are strategies to hone in on self-discipline. but first and foremost, you must have very clear target(s) and goal(s). If you don't have a target or goal, then it is like headless chicken trying to move around. e.g. for me, my target is Next Year's June Gobi Desert run. So, I set interim targets like the November Powerman dualthon, End of yr MR Ultramarathon. next yfr sundown. then how do I achieve that? i mapped out my training plan (build base, train power and endurance, build mileage), find a really experienced and good training partner, in this case, WK.
once target and interim targets and plans set, the next step is to stick to it.
Focus is the key. focus on every action, focus on every training, not deterred by distractions and temptations. This is definitely the hardest, i.e. how to stick to the plan, and it calls on every ounce of mental strength you (I) have. For me, I also wants to enjoy the every moment of my runs and training, without being too rigid.
there is a lot of mental focusing involved. when there is distractions, i always draw myself back to the plan, the target.
Like what WK was sharing, it is like one of your ears is listening to class 95 and the other ear listening to 933. then u would focus yourself on listening to class95 or 933 and ignoring the other side.
does it make sense?
